Algebra I

  1. Expected Course Objectives

• use appropriate vocabulary to describe expressions

• interpret parts of an expression, such as terms, factors, and coefficients

• use order of operations to simplify expressions

• evaluate expressions

• solve multi-step equations

• use the distributive property

• construct a viable argument to justify a solution

• rearrange formulas to highlight a quantity of interest, using the same reasoning as in solving equations

• reason abstractly and quantitatively

• construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others

• model with mathematics

• look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

  1. Assignments will be done in pencil. The goal is to learn the processes. Therefore, each math problem must be written on the paper, the calculations and formulas written out and answers circled.
  2. Materials:
  • Pencil with eraser
  • Loose leaf paper or spiral notebook
  • Protractor
  • Compass
  • 12 inche ruler with both metric and U.S. markings

 

**All materials are required to be brought to class with you every day!

  1. Grading

Grades will be determined from participation, daily work and tests. Always remember behavior and effort go a long way on the grading scale.

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

D = 60-69

F = 59 and below

  1. Behavioral Expectations in classroom
  2. Be respectful of each other and the teacher
  1. Arrive to class on time.
  2. Come to class prepared to learn –have pen or pencil, paper, etc…
  3. Students will follow all Haskell Public Schools board policy for student behavior.
